If you’re thinking of purchasing a HG10 with a view to using it with iMovie08, you’ll want to visit this thread at the Apple Support forums for the low down on how users are finding it. ‘Pmw21′ has asked how well the HG10 works with iMovie08 and there’s been a flood of positive responses; Andrew Kaufman reports “Have been using my new HG10 with iMovie for the past two weeks and the interaction is seamless and excellent.”
Mac users will also find useful advice from one ‘Winston Churchill’ who says “You need an intel mac to import AVCHD directly to iMovie, however you could always use Voltaic to convert your AVCHD on your G5.” ‘Barry Pendergast’ is also very pleased with the results; he’s a newcomer to the HG10, using a Mac G5 and Voltaic “very successfully!”

Hi folks – great to see you mentioning the SimplyDV “Camcorder of the Year 2007″ award, which has been given to the very deserving Canon HG10. I should add that I’ve edited two test projects with iMovie ‘08 on an Intel iMac running Leopard and the whole thing was as easy as it could be. Not only that, but it maintains every scrap of quality that comes off the HG10’s HDD.
Having imported the clips (where they’re unpacked into 1920×1080i “.MOV” format) it’s an easy job to make a first assembly of clips and then export the XML project file to Final Cut Pro 6 for fine editing to completion. I know – I’ve done it! As yet, we can’t import directly into FCP because there’s currently no import preset, but I’m sure that won’t be long coming.
