We’ve got more HG10 issues for propspective, new and experienced users to discuss, advise on and learn from.
First up is Blackhawk1214 over at AVS forums, who’s in a quandary over which new camera to get; he’s narrowed it down to three, and the HG10’s on the shortlist. Does it sound like the HG10 is his best bet? Have you found it ticks all the boxes? Visit the thread.
The second issue is a bit meatier and needs some expert knowledge. Aaron Courtney over at DV Info has a specific complaint about transferring footage from the HG10 on to his computer. When filming footage that comes to over 2 gigabytes, upon transfer the software splits the footage in to different files. This isn’t a problem in itself, but as Aaron explains:
“If you drag and drop the two .mts files and open them in your NLE, you will notice 418 samples of audio (originally sampled in cam @ 48K) missing just prior to the splice point and exactly two dropped frames just after the splice point. Doesn’t matter if you shoot 24PFor 60i.”
Aaron says this doesn’t happen when the footage is played back on the camera itself, so it must be an issue rising from transfer. Got the same problem? Think you’ve got a way to sort it out? Share.
