In the Canon HG-10 thread, our trialist Ben Bruges talks about using his HG10 to shoot a documentary in Cape Town, and how he loved the quality of the images, the menu and the playback. He was less keen on the ‘ugly and underdesigned’ viewfinder and found the conversion from AVCHD to SD a lengthy process. However, it was so easy to use that the family he was recording had no trouble in using the cam themselves for some point-of-view shooting- and his fellow camera operator was so impressed that he plans to recommend it to his colleagues at MTV and Endemol for just this purpose.

He too has reservations about the viewfinder and the AVCHD to SD conversion, and finds the inability to change settings whilst shooting frustrating. However, he thinks the auto settings are excellent in good light and he particularly loves its ability to cope with any fast panning or fast moving objects. Overall, he concludes that:
