Another of our trialists, the self-proclaimed ‘Opinionated Moderator’ Mark W has lived up to his name by posting an in-depth review of the Canon HG10 at Digital Director. Finding it a mixed bag of good and not so good, Mark states that “I am not an expert at reviewing cameras but I am obsessed with the art and I dam well care about these things”, so expect his frank opinion on what he likes, and what he… don’t.
Starting with the positives, Mark is impressed by the size and build quality upon opening the box: “cute, small and perfectly formed. The lens was reassuringly large and the lens cover opens itself – nice. Reassuringly heavy too.” He’s also a fan of the zoom function and loves the flip out view screen, “like a teeny HDV TV”, and the fact that “the camera was totally silent in use”.
Mark’s biggest issue with the HG10 seems to be the quality of the HD footage; he doesn’t think it’s as good as it could be, though he does say that “the best bit is the colour rendition – it’s superb – the auto white balance does a good job of keeping things real looking and the colours are vivid”.
He signs off by declaring “The Canon HG10 is a fantastically made little camera that is a joy to use” but tempers it by saying it’s not unique in this respect.
If you’ve got equally strong opinions on the camera, and aren’t afraid to speak your mind, head over to read the full thing and give your own review.
