Imaginary award of the week goes to AV Forums for being a hotbed of advice to HG10 users.
Jonathancarty has found that, when trying to playback downloaded footage through WMP, the quality is not as good as direct cam to TV. Our HG1O trialist Senu suggests converting to “WMV-HD which is very good quality with so much less hardware overhead than AVCHDs MTS”. Though jonathancarty finds Nero 8 does not have the option to covert to WMV, Senu reports that Vegas Movie Studio Platinum and Pinnacle Studio 11 Plus both support WMV conversion “either by default or if the WM 9 encoder is installed on the system,” and reassures him that “the longer you have [the HG10] the better you get at using it”.
Another of our trialists on AV forums, lurcher, has found himself with the same issues as some of our other trialists. Like Mark W, his large hands meant he struggled with “the little wheel and menu access and found it difficult to control”. And like jonathancarty, he had a few problems when converting the footage on his computer, being “disappointed with the SD dvd I created”. However, all acknowledge that this is a generic problem with AVCHD – advice can be found in a previous Canon Camera buzz post.
Indeed, Lurcher did manage to get some “stunning…few mins footage of the garden” despite the rubbish winter weather, and overall our AV Forums trialists seem to have given their HG10s a big thumbs up. Why not ask them yourself?
