“Designer, illustrator, author [and] Mac maven” JT has just taken delivery of a brand spanking new HG10. Having purchasing a Sony HDR-SR5, John found that it didn’t have a viewfinder, just an LCD screen that he could barely read despite the weather being grey and overcast. The Sony was returned and exchanged for the HG10 and John is now getting acquainted with it, finding that “downloading video from the camera to a Mac is almost automatic” – good to hear since we’ve noticed some comments that HG10s and Macs aren’t great together.
John uses iMovie ’08 which “automatically detects the video camera and opens an Import window that shows thumbnails of the video clips that are in the camera.” He finds you can’t create complex edits as easily as you could with iMovie ’06, though he still prefers iMovie 08 to scissors, tape and 8 mm film! For more complex editing John recommends Final Cut Pro, or Final Cut Express.
John does report a slight disappointment that the download time of the HG10 footage is almost real time. He was hoping it would be quicker than MiniDV, since the clips are already digital, but on the whole he seems to be having a very positive HG10 experience. If youre a fellow Mac HG10er, jump on over and leave a comment for him.

How do you get files from the HG10 into Final Cut Pro 5? I can’t get it to work.
How do you get files form the HG10 into Final Cut Exress 4? I can’t get it to work.
I am also having issues with importing Sony MTS AVCHD files into FCP 6. I have been reading all the web postings and some people say using Log and Transfer can make it work if you drag the WHOLE FOLDER , not just the clips. Any ideas on this matter ? Anyone? Anyone? I use a MacBook Pro w/Intel…running the latest FCP 6 and the camcorder in question is brand new Sony SR-11 HD Hardrive unit. I like the camera a lot but I will return it if the editing workflow is not efficient.
Thanks,
B
I have just purchased the HG10 and I am running iMovie HD 6.03.
I cannot get the files to import into iMovie. The following error occurs
“The file could not be imported: The file “Macintosh HardDrive/Volumes/CANON_HDD/AVCHD/BDMV/STREAM/00000.MTS” can’t be imported; QuickTime couldn’t parse it: -2048″
