There’s been a fair amount of coverage on Canon Camera Buzz on the subject of extracting footage from the HG10 on to the PC and converting it, as it can be a daunting prospect for new users of the camera.
Lloyd Davis, one of our triallist chums, has written up his guide for transferring video from the HG10 to a PC running XP to help Thayer, another of our HG10 triallists. It’s a good, easy to follow guide from Lloyd and very handy if you don’t have a Mac with iMovie which, according to Lloyd, “doubtlessly cleans your shoes for you while it’s speedily encoding and compressing”!
Starting off with the software he uses, Lloyd then explains what the processes involve when importing, converting, then exporting the video, after which you can edit the footage in an .avi format, much more manageable at one-third of the size of the original .mts file.
Have you used a similar method or do you have a different way of doing things? Head on over for Lloyd’s guide and let him know what you think.

sorry, but what is the link to Lloyds article?
Whoops, looks like the links got left out Ed! I’ve added them in now.
