I’m really eager to get my hands on the next generation in Canon’s PowerShot S series. Perhaps a Powershot S6 IS or an S7 IS? Any idea when???
I am hoping that Canon addresses some of the issues that have been plaguing the S5, primarily the picture quality issues from having too many megapixels and too small a processor. I would like to see Canon restore the S series to the elite status it held in its S3 IS incarnation. However, I realize that this would depend on Canon’s ability to forego the flashy (and crowd pleasing) increase in extra megapixels and concentrate on making sure tha the processor is strong enough to effectively utilize the megapixels it has.
I would be perfectly happy to see an S6 IS with only 7 megapixels, but with a juiced up processor and all of the other great features that customers have come to expect from the S series. I am particularly impressed with the S5′s video capabilities … 35 minutes of video at that quality on a 4 GB memory card is AWESOME! But is there any chance we could get a wider angle lens on an S6 IS?
I only hope that Canon has the courage to forego the seemingly mandatory increase in megapixels, and rely on the ability of its customers to discern quality when they see it.

PS Please do not think that this is any kind of industrial espionage tactic designed by a competitor to get Canon to release a “weaker” product. This is just a concerned (and eager) life-long Canon customer expressing a genuine and independently formed opinion. Trying to give you guys some helpful feedback and find out when I can expect to buy my next Canon camera.
