Canon 5D MkII captures Pentonville Nights

Davide Roveri on Vimeo has created a short titled Pentonville Nights that has been entirely shot on a Canon 5D MkII using a 50mm f1.4 lens at 24fps.

This is his first attempt at putting something together and he’s eager for some comments, so watch the video and head over to Vimeo to let him know your thoughts. We think it’s rather good and particularly like the ‘Welcome to London’ shot at around the 2:17 mark. Overall the whole video has a remarkable stillness to it. See what you think…

Laura Kidd with the EF S 10-22mm & EF 14mm f/2.8L II USM lenses

Recently we put the Canon EF S 10-22mm & EF 14mm f/2.8L II USM lenses in the hands of Laura Kidd and let her loose.

Canon EF lenses in the hands of Rosie Hardy

A few weeks back we asked Rosie Hardy to trial a couple of lenses to see what she could do with them and what she thought. They were an EF 85mm f/1.2L II USM & EF 24mm f1.4L mark II. The results are amazing!

A day in my life: Canon EOS 5D Mk II

On Flickr Mjuboy (or Kishor if you read his blog) has created a set titled ‘A Day in My Life’. In accordance to the title, the set captures the happenings from getting out of bed to heading home and returning to it.

The set was photographed entirely using kit we’d lent him to trial back in January. Notably a Canon EOS 5D Mk II and a Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 L IS lens. There are 30 images that make up his day and below I’ve picked a few of my favourites – in chronological order of course.

The Can-Do Film Festival

The Can-Do Film Festival is the world’s first international web film festival and is running from January 1^st 2010 to March 20^th 2010. The competition is open to Canon shooters worldwide and sponsored by Vimeo, where all the submissions will hosted.

If you’re creative juices are already flowing then you’ll need to know the rules, all of which are on the site. Importantly the movie must be less than four minutes long and shot on the Canon HD DSLR EOS 1D Mk IV, EOS 5D Mk II or EOS 7D.

There are plenty of prizes up for grabs, with each winner of the 10 categories getting a Canon EF Lens of choice worth up to $1000. Those successful in Creative Inspiration and Technical Innovation will each receive a Canon EOS 5D Mk II HD DSLR with the competitions overall champion receiving a Canon EOS 1D Mk IV HD DSLR.

Goodies well worth winning, which means competition is going to be stiff, but if you think you’ve got what it takes all the details are here. Submissions for the Can-Do Film Festival must placed into one of 10 categories and these vary from music video to nature documentary, movie trailer to narrative. Whether an aspiring Michel Gondry, Spike Jonze or David Attenborough, you should be able to find a suitable category.

The event will be judged by a panel including producer at ILM Rick McCullen and Vimeo director of community Blake Whitman, with the results being announced mid April 2010. Carlo Nicora seriously impressed by the EOS 5d Mark II Camera

It would be fair to say that Carlo Nicora was a big fan of the new Canon 5D Mark II camera. In fact, it may even be fair to say that he was a VERY big fan – and who can blame him when one takes a look at just some of the magnificent shots he produced.

Tweeting that “This camera is able to Create Light from the Darkness!!!!” and that “The Canon 5D Mark II is a SUPERB camera!” he goes on to describe a particular shot in great detail on his blog.

“On the South Bank I crossed these two guys, who were walking and smiling in a low red light. Usually my camera would have been away already, or it would have been suffering in the widest aperture and highest ISO setting”. But with Canon in hand, he gained permission for the shot and utilising skills along with technical wizardry, he “remained hit by the detail of the shot. To be a ISO 1600 I think this is stunning.”

Canon’s big day out to road test the EOS 5d Mark II Camera

What good are wonderful cameras if one can’t get out into the big wide world, and get snapping at inspiring, emotionally charged or beautiful images?

That’s why, last week, Canon invited a number of magnificent photographers from across the world wide web, to a ‘big day out’ to try out the Canon 5D Mark II camera – and shoot some magnificent images across London Town.

Visiting, amongst other places, the British Museum, the London Eye and Trafalgar Square – a whole heap of images were shot – and all of them can be seen in our official flickr group.

From battling the elements at Trafalgar Square (pictured courtesy of Phill Price), to the swirling colours of a gaudy carousel horse at dusk, do pop over to take a look at all the images over here – and let the artists know what you think.
