HD is renowned for being an unforgiving format – apparently there are hoardes of actors in despair thinking of their every flaw and pore becoming crystal clear on HD TV screens across the country.

However, one San Francisco-based personal trainer is using HD to help us all become more beautiful – he blogged today about the fitness workout video he’s planning to film with his new HG10:

And all that muscle-pumping footage will be easier to edit than ever thanks to a newly released software update from Shedworx. Billy Fire LLC has written a fantastically in-depth blog post on his newly purchased HG10, which replaces his old Canon ZR DV camera. Despite only having just got it, Billy has come up with a massive list of positives about the HG10, including the fact that HD is very handy even if you don’t currently own a HD TV; as he says, “you can always convert down – but not up.” The size and weight of the camera come in for a mention, as does the joy of no longer dealing with a desk full of unlabeled digital tapes- the HG10’s hard disk drive holds up to nine and a half hours of filmed footage.

Billy also writes a little on the editing software he intends to use for sculpting his raw footage; “Shedworx has created a program, VoltaicHD, that converts AVCHD files into AVI files” which sounds rather handy for budding editors. He’s also investigated software from Elecard, as “they offer a wealth of software including software to convert AVCHD files to MPEG files for editing”.
